Isinbayeva Again! 5.05m World Pole Vault record in Beijing
Beijing - For the second straight Olympic Games, Yelena Isinbayeva set a new World record in the Pole Vault. Sending the capacity crowd at National Stadium into a frenzy, the Russian defended her title with a leap of 5.05m, adding a centimetre to her own 5.04m record set last month at the Herculis Super Grand Prix in Monaco.
“I was trying to do my best for the crowd,” said the 26-year-old after setting her 24th world mark. “I felt that I could not go without a world record because of the support the crowd gave me.”
Beijing 2008 - Day Two Summary - 16 Aug
Beijing, China - Usain Bolt's
9.69 World record* left other
gold medal performances in the
shade after the end of the
second day of Athletics at the
Games of the XXIX Olympiad,
Beijing 2008.
It was still Saturday morning in
Jamaica, and we imagine this
means there was plenty of day
and evening left to celebrate
the 9.69 World record run by
Usain Bolt in Saturday night's (beijing
time) 100m final, which
concluded the second day of
Olympic athletics at Beijing's
National Stadium.

World champion Luke Kibet offers a beacon of hope for troubled Kenya
While
watching a group of Kenyan
athletes training at the Nairobi
Uhuru Gardens, 2007 World
Marathon champion Luke Kibet can
easily pass without notice. The
24-year-old who struck gold in
Osaka has a relatively short
stature compared to the seven
athletes who are training with
him. Even though he has been at
the head of the training pack
for most of the one and half
hours session Kibet is not a man
who seems to standout from the
crowd, and on a bright day like
this not even his brightly
coloured training shirt is able
to clearly pick him out from the
group.

Kibet's Osaka gold: a shock Marathon win for Kenya?
saturday 25 august 2007
Osaka, Japan - Given that over 500 Kenyans ran under two hours twenty minutes for a marathon last year, and that most of the world’s big city race titles are taken by the men from the Rift Valley, ‘Kenyan wins marathon’ is probably the most overworked introduction in................
